Hanggliding 101 - An Introduction to Foot-Launching Your own Glider Wing

Have
you ever dreamed of flying? Have you ever stood atop a hill or mountain
and dreamed of soaring over the valley below? Well dream no more as
Things To Do brings you the opportunity to learn to foot launch a
hangglider. After a classroom sessions that includes safety and
groundhandling exercises, we will head to the slope for a day of
learning a high energy and fun new sport.



Foot launching a hangglider involves a pilot picking up and
balancing the glider wing on his or her shoulders. Once balanced, the
pilot begins a progressive run into the wind and down the gently
sloping hillside. Within a few running steps the glider begins to fly
and soon glider and pilot are soaring down the slope. An instructor
will give control input suggestions via harness mounted radio to
encourage the new pilot to act and react as needed. Our instructor has
is certified flight master and has been teaching hanggliding since
1976. By the end of the day, you will be flying solo at about 10-feet
off the ground for distances of about 50 yards.



Requirements:

Weight: 110 lbs min, 270 lbs max

Height: 5'-0" min, 6'-4" max



Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.



Donuts and coffe will be served when you arrive.



Please arrive early as class starts promptly at 8:30 am.




Suggested Attire: Wear a shoe with good
ankle support and dress in layers. It is always easy to remove a
sweatshirt if it gets too warm.
